Review from Punk Globe ………
The band are Jackie Chambers (lead guitar/vocals) best known for being a key member of Metal band Girlschool, Julia Calvo (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Keira Kenworthy (bass guitar/vocals) and Pablo Calvo (drums/vocals).
The band hit the stage and for the next ninety minutes played a stunning set backed with punchy, memorable songs from both albums. Every track was well-received by the audience, the songs all worked really well live, lead singer Julia had the crowd singing and chanting along to many of the numbers.
As a band Syteria are well-rehearsed and a tight unit, they oozed confidence and all of them had such great stage presence. I was particularly struck by their Bangles-esque vocal harmonising. They were clearly having a blast on stage.
Set highlights for me were Guilty, Get A Life, I’m All Woman, Make Some Noise, Stupid Girl, If, Hypocrite, Revolution and Complications, Halloween and Sheeple. Jackie Chambers is a gifted songwriter with a knack for penning tracks that stick in your head and won’t let go.
There was one cover version played tonight, Rockaway Beach by The Ramones and it was awesome.
The gig was over all too quickly and the band left many of the crowd stunned by how good they were. Syteria definitely gained new fans this evening, me included.
The show was flawless and band is a force to be reckoned with. I was very impressed by what I witnessed this evening. Syteria is in the running for my band of the year.
Keep an eye out for show announcements and go and see them live.
